Oil Control Springs - Replace them or not?

I'm doing a rebuild here soon.. and I think the only part I haven't gotten for the rebuild (other than front, intermediate, and rear plates) are the oil control springs. They are a bit pricey and would love to NOT have to replace them, but I also feel the "Might as well since I'm in there" itch.

In the archives, there's a thread on what parts are needed.. and only ONE person even mentions them.... Has anybody ever had one fail? Also, where's the cheapest place to get a full set?

Thanks,
Micah

IMO its silly not to replace them if you are doing a rebuild.

90% of the time they are fine to reuse. BUt then of course you know my opinion on these things anyway. I've compared used sets with new sets, and they never seem to wear or flatten at all.

Yeah.. your opinion is "reuse it if it doesn't look like an abstract". j/k man. Well, when it comes down to it.... hopefully I'll be able to afford it.

I'd say more along the lines of "reuse it if it doesnt look any different from the new ones".

And, I'd say with over 200 engines in 5 years built, and basically NO complaints, I must know something that everyone else doesnt.

I've done it both ways, and noticed no difference.

Nothing legitimate. Not counting the people who thought I built them a bad engine because their turbo was smoking a shitload, their OMP rod was hung open, their crankcase was sealed and building pressure, etc.
