Oil control ring?

Need your input guys. What would cause my inner oil control ring to pop out of the rotor? I tore apart my S4 today and found the front rotors inner oil ring next to the front plate. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Ed

Some of them will fall out when disassembling the motor, it's normal...There's no where for them to go when everything's back together, so they can't "fall out". IIRC, the inner ones fit fairly loose compared to the outer ones anyway...

Could this have popped out when the motor was running?

Thanks, Ed

No, if it did, the motor would be worthless by now.

It is not unusual for the oil control ring to pop out on high mileage engines.
Over time, wear & tear, the soft oil control o-ring shrinks.
It is their oversize design that initially keeps the oil control ring from popping out.
