Oil Change (funny story)

So, I don't have jackstands for my car, and no place to really do my own oil change, so I went into a large oil change chain (won't say who) and asked for one.

The guy looked at me, looked at my car.

And I quote.

"I can't do an oil change on THAT."

Then I asked why, and it got into a story about rotary engines, and then he said, and I quote again.

"I've been hearing those new RX-8's blow a piston out of the hood when you race them."

After he said that, I didn't argue anymore, and I rolled out and left.

I was flat-out refused service because I drive an RX-7.

What a story.

I can understand if you don't want to change your oil but you don't really have to jack up the car to drain it.

You dont need jack stands i would reccommend them(saftey first) but i cant tell you how many times i have taken the stock jack out propped up one side up took out the plug and had one of those drain things and lowered the car so all the oil came out then jacked it back up and put the bolt in, changed the filter up top and filled it up.

And for the old oil just take it to a gas station or some place that takes the oil and most of the time it is free to get rid of but they may charge you at the most like $3.

No one's commenting on the story?

That story is hilarious and depressing at the same time. Launching pistons through the hood when raced. Classic!

Retailers that sell new oil* are required by law to accept used oil for free.

*There are conditions of course- the seller must sell over 1000 gal/year but that will cover all of the major chain stores.
You can ask when you buy the oil.

Yep. Usually just drive around to their "sevice" area and they'll point the way.

Any autoparts store like AutoZone, Advance, etc. should have a place in the back of the store for you to dump your oil into.

Fumoto Oil Drain Valve + Low-profile Oil Drain Pan = Never again jack up the car to change the oil, never again change out the oil drain plug washer, never again drop the oil drain plug in the hot oil, never again bash your knuckles on the pavement when the wrench slips.

Yeah, I always take mine to advance. I used to live less than a 1/4 mile from the city recycling center, so I just took it there.

I tried to take mine to an oil change place to get my inspection done, but I couldn't get in because my car was too low. Which is kinda sad, because the guide lip around the pit was only 2-3 inches high..... I guess its just as well, though. If they were really under it they might suspect something about my exhaust system. lol

I guess I must have launched all the pistons out of my RX-8 (although not through the hood) because I can't seem to find even one piston under my hood except the slave and master cyl pistons on the clutch and brake.

You better hurry up and get that worked on! That camshaft can't be too happy.

Forget jackstands, Rhino Ramps For The Driveway Win!!

You know most of those "large chain" oil change places only replace the filter and don't actually drain the oil... So it's probably better off that they didn't accept you anyways...

It's ok. I took my car to the Mazda dealership for a service to get everything checked. Payed for the "C" service, the 150$ one. Basically payed for a 150$ oil change and the mechanic forgot to change the oil filter on the car... about 2 days afterward, my diff started leaking fluid from the drain plug and they told me it was my fault and charged me another 120$ for a new drain bolt...

Or they'll change your oil and over tighten your drain bolt. Had to replace the oil pan in my dad's neon because of that.

The more work I get done by shops, the more I want to do the work myself. Save some money and do it right.

The only time I'll be heading to a shop in the near future is probably to get work down on my A/C, and that's really just to have it evacuated and maybe checked for leaks.
