oh...and a boost problem too

Here's the story...

Got an oil leak fixed on my '87 TII S4. a few weeks later, I sprayed degreaser on the crud in the engine compartment and went to the U-clean-it car wash and washed the engine and surrounding stuff.
So far all is well. Next morning I head out cross country and I'm getting way too much response out of the turbo. I just press the gas and the gauge moves. If I hold it open accelerating, the gauge goes much higher than i've seen before and the engine starts running rough - like a spark plug is disconnected.
If I let off the accelerator just a bit to make the boost gauge come down to normal range, the engine smooths out and runs like I'm used to.

Any ideas what I washed away to cause this?

Thanks,000,000

Sounds like you knocked off the wastegate control line, then overboosted the car.. Check for loose vacuum lines in and about the engine bay PARTICULARLY in the turbine inlet area.

Its a HUGE problem when the boost goes to high and the engine starts misfiring...
