How were you doing the undersides? Trying to reproduce the stock bracing is the wrong way to do it, and harder than it has to be (most people don't know any better though). It's not metal, you need to do it differently. Make it with a foam, balsa, honeycomb or other stiff, lightweight core material with solid layers on either side and it'll be nice and rigid. You could probably do just one thin layer on each side when using a solid core material like foam and it'd be quite light.

beautiful car. is that a vent there in the front bumper? how do you do that?
Thanks. I just used a mat knife to cut the rubstrip out of the front bumper cover and then used a holesaw and rasp to make the slot in the fiberglass front bumper.

Just before a 7 stock many years ago I cut out a temporary duct sides and top/bottom out of CF sheet w/ a CF cylinder in the middle for support and haven't gotten around to doing anything more permanent.

thanks for the idea. Bump to the top. anyone else know where i might be able to get a hood like this?

i'm thinking i could make one out an an NA hood, but it prolly wouldnt look as good. i was thinking i could buy the raised vents in a very similar style, use metal screws to secure them from underneath and then cut roundish retangular hole in the hood. Hmmmm, that really doesnt sound that bad. use a little filler to hide the seems and get it repainted after everything is done.

Anyone know where i can buy vents like that? I'll make a write up if i actually end up doing it.

I don't think the aluminum will stretch far enough on a stock hood to allow those louvers but they might

As for your vent idea I would cut them out and mount them from underneath with rivits. Actually the best thing to do would be butt-weld them in place top & bottom and then sand the beads down. That would give the best & smoothest look. That's assuming you can find them in AL. If not some glass/kittyhair work would be in order. I don't know how strong that would be or if the flexing in the hood would cause it to crack.

I may try so build something similar to the atihun hood with some of the aluminum sheet that I have.

FWIW I have not heard back from Atihun yet.

Awesome, your just the person i was hoping would answer in this thread.

i know atilla is a very busy guy. I've met him a couple times through friends. Very cool guy with an awesome FD. I'll ask my buddy to try and get in touch with him for you. I'll give him your screen name on here also.

as for the hood, yes, i would much rather rivet them. i just didnt know the terminology. Do you have any clue on what those vents might be techinically called or **crosses fingers** where i might even be able to buy some. i search and search and search, but find nothing but gaudy, cheap, ebay looking premade hood scoops. and in searching for "vents", i find nothing but home/Air conditioning stuff.

I PM'd FD Newbie, but to tell the truth, i would get soooo much more satisfaction building this myself. And i honestly think it can be done for a reasonable price on a stock hood.

Also - hit up driftbrigadenj on AIM, I cannot remember what his screenname is here but he has a hood that used the Raceonusa scoops that his body shop buddy molded into the hood. I don't know if he still has it or not.

Regardless, I thank you for passing the word onto atihun... thats really cool. As for the scoops - Raceonusa has some but to be honest I cannot remember what they look like. There is also the C-Wings GT3 hood

If you remove the under bracing off a stock hood you could take it to a local hot rod shop to add some louvers to your hood, probably would work on either a steel or aluminum hood. Hot rods have louvers done all the time, so any shop should either have the equipment to do it, or know where to take it to have it done. Not sure if you can get them quite that big though.

It wouldn't be too hard to make a simple rectangular vent ala Corvette out of sheet aluminum riveted together and rivet it to the stock hood. Smoothing out those rivets would be the challenge (maybe use countersunk screws?). Having a lip on the leading edge of the vent helps air flow from the engine bay.

I <3 the GT3 hood. I've found it but I'm not sure if it's just an aluminum hood with fiberglass mated to it, or if it's actually a fiberglass skin on an aluminum frame.
