thermostat piercing. they are all the rage.

it allows a little bit of flow with the thermostat closed i believe.

so why didnt the stant unit have it? is this another thing that makes stant even worse? (im not defending stant in anyway) just wondering what the hell the little dangling peice of metal is for.

i can understand if it was just a little hole to let air bubbles past the t-stat and a little bit of flow by. but what if that little peice broke off and went flying into the water pump?

shouldn't as I think it's made of stainless steel. the Stant t-stat I have in my 7 didn't so I drilled it, I think 4-6 holes.

I got a new thermostat from the local parts store that their computer said matched my car. It also didn't have that hole so I drilled one about the same size, but without the dangly thing. I haven't installed it yet though, was still waiting for some other gaskets from mazdatrix.

It's officially called a "jiggle pin".
It allows the thermostat to bleed air bubbles when installed correctly.
Please install the jiggle pin UP!
Without the jiggle pin, air bubbles tend to get trapped underneath the thermostat, even when the thermostat opens up.

Yes, pointing towards the alternator or highest point.
You cannot mount the pin directly upwards cause of the thread boss from one of the bolt holes. :P
But try and get it rotated towards the top as much as possible.
