Angry OEM Security system Malfunction???

In the middle of the night my Vert will start flashing the turnsignals, the headlights come on in the buckets and shine throught the FTP's and the horn will stay on.... It will do it for about 10 minute intervals.. I run outside to see WTF is going on, open the door to the car and it stops....... I am baffled and am not sleeping well.... HELP!!!!

I have no clue, but this is quite possibly the funniest problem I've ever seen on this forum.

Yeah it is comical, my doberman is getting pissed off though... The weird thing is (address blocked) I don't even lock the car... I live out in the boonies and would hear someone coming down the driveway.. Plus the 70 LB doberman would tear them a new one... It's really odd...

You're lucky you don't live in an apartment complex or something. I guess you could just unhook the battery

I had that problem and couldn't find it either so I just took the alarm out.

check the latch switch on the doors (the lever that locks and unlocks inside the car).

If the latch switch is dirty or out of alignment (usually from a door panel put on slightly off position or the handle itself adjust too low).

If the latch switch is out of position the factory security system can trigger intermittently.

Hmm would make sense due to the fact that my Outer handle is broken on the Vert... Weird intermitent problem.. I wonder though why opening the door would stop the alarm??

Unlocking the door with the key dis-arms the factory alarm.

Gotta unlock the door to open it

got any cats in the neighborhood? I don't know how sensitive the stock system is but I know that a cat jumping up to the hood of my dad's truck sets it off.

I've had the same problem with the alarm on my 90 GXL. The inside lock/unlock button (next to the door handle) was causing the problem. There are very small coil springs behind the lock/unlock button that loose tension over time. The tension loss will cause the button to slide down slightly under its own weight and make connection of the electrical contacts behind the button, which will cause the alarm to go off. I tried to fix the lock by streaching the springs, but the problem eventually came back. I decided to buy a new lock/unlock button from Mazda and have had no problems with the alarm going off. IIRC, the lock/unlock button cost about $15. Not sure this is what's causing your problem, but it may be worth taking a look at.

if that doesnt work also check the trunk latch because i belive the alarm system is tied in with that also and thats what was giving me my problems...and maybe 4 some reason your alarm control box went out i belive thats under pass seat or under the dash...but if u never lock the car i would just dissconect the system.

yeah i used to have that problem in my vert.... it was very rare that it did it, i just thought it went away. now that i think about it, it hasnt happened since i stretched the springs on my lock/unlock switch. i think there is a write up on it somewhere. it also fixes the follow me system that locks and unlocks the pass. door with the drivers.
