odd problem.. DD need help

87 N/A stock standard

car wont stay lit in short.. heres the lead up

could never get a consistantly good idle but bulb test seemed good

got stuck in deep mud & water (construction work) shamed to say i flipped out n revved the **** out of first n reverse before finally gettin pulled out to the smell of my burnt clutch

car drove fine for the rest of the trip home across town

driving to work next day the power steering died along with the stereo, engine started to chug a bit, also i got a repeated 5 beep powere steering error code, i flipped on headlights n dropped 1500 or so rpm so i assumed alternator, turned em off, got to work an car died. wouldnt start just clicked when i turned the key

started at lunch witha boost like no problem.. then promptly died after warming up

started again at end of shift with a boost, but died as i tried ot pull out.. tried to jump an it caught n died. boost again an no prob.. so i get a lil ways down the road and the car dies on the first corner.. which i took fast trying to keep the rpms up but still it chugged an died. tried to jump start it with the momentum an it caugh an died once then the car went completely dead.. no electrical at all.

pop hood.. Main fuse is blown.. replace.. boost car starts no problem. drive to gas station.. shut it off an fuel. starts no problem. drive across town via outskirts and it died on the third stop after running fine for 32 minits according to the clock :P

boost .. it starts then dies as soon as we pull the cables off.. charged it for a few minits and it started and got me home. screwed with the tps adjustment as i no longer had a happy 2 bulbs but couldnt get it set

also now i notice that when i turn the car on the BAC clicks (i keep reading that this is the solenoid, however no one seems to say if its normal or not)

and thats where im at.. much like one of the previous threads i read stated, if i didnt love this rotten piece ofshit car so much id just blow it up. but its just so much funnnn... when it works right

any hints as to what it is before i start buying alternators n power steering pumps n such. i read there is a power steering relay but i dont know where to look to find it to see if its got cold solder issues, any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you confirmed that your alternator is working correctly?

Having it short out can cause the main fuse to blow along with have it not work correctly.

replaced alternator.. car will start now but soon as it warms up it dies.. theres a few things im gonna check but the main question on my mind that i cant seem to find an answer to is "is the humming/clicking noise comin from the BAC normal?"

did you replace the alternator before or after the problem? alternators are defective sometimes, especially if you got a remanufactured one from kragen or autozone

replaced alternator after all this.. humming BAC included.. hoewever i do recall the humming starting as a result of cranking the wheel to the limits while i had it jacked up to see if the steering made any noise and thats when i first noticed the humming BAC

The BAC making noise in general is a good thing. That means it's working. Now, if it's supposed to hum/click, I have no clue.

My car idles fine without a BAC. I'd start looking for vacuum leaks, incorrect sensor settings... etc.

what is the voltage on the volt meter on the dash???

That will tell you right there if the alt is bad.

Anything under 13.5 volts when the engine is running is a bad thing, and not charging the battery.

Anything under 12.6 volts and the car is running on the battery.
