Odd Problem, clutch or computer or what?

Ok, a couple months ago my engine went out for some reason and wouldn't start the car no more. Well I finally got another used engine and had my friend put it in. Anyways, when they first put the engine in and started it and all, the car only had a idle problem, it idled like crap basically, they drove it around and didn't find anything else that seemed wrong.

So when I went to pick it up and take it home. I started it and that idle didn't sound like crap, If you gave it gas it would stutter, like nothing was getting anything power. And if you stopped giving gas it would just die.

So I start drving it home, first stop sign, it dies. Start it back up and continue. Now it starts jerking kind of while driving, I don't know what to think. Next stoplight it dies. Start it up again and go. But now it only goes like 5 miles an hour if that, no faster. I pull off somewhere and stop. Got my friend out there and he tries to drive it back, it seems to get worse, as it can barely stay started if theres no gas being pressed. We finally make it back and the only thing my friend could think the problem could be is the computer going bad, as well as another friend of mine said he had the same problem on a different car (not sure what) and said his was the clutch going out. Now that the car was towed to my house, it doesn't really even start anymore, if it does start by some luck, it doesn't stay on for long.

Sorry for the long post but i wanted to give the most details....And its a 1990 RX-7 GTU S5. The engine we put in is supposed to have less than 100,000 miles on it.

Please, does anyone have any idea what this could be or if the causes I have been told might be it?

Thanks alot in advance for any help, and if you need more info just ask, I'll put it up as soon as I can since i'll be around the comp most of the day.

I don't know, My friend just checked the spark plugs, the fuel was coming fine, it made the compression noise fine with the spark plugs out. We checked the computer, thats not it. We checked the wiring that we could and it all seemed fine.

The engine when we bought ran fine in the car they pulled it out of, and its an S5 engine and everything. Have I just stumped everyone on the board except that the engine is dead? Any suggestions would really be appreciated cause were blank over here on what could be the problem. Oh yeah, the coils are working fine as well and like I said fuel seems to be running through the car fine. The Map senser is hooked up and all that. Only long shot idea we can think of for it not starting now is its not getting air or something. It will Just crank over, and maybe it will start if you tap the gas pedal, but once it does it goes up to 500 RPM's or so and dies.

Any Fresh ideas?

Agree with Aaron Cake on the vaccuum leak or a loose or faulty AFM.
