this is odd

When I am at a stop light and my foot is on the clutch petal, but not on the brake, the idle jumps.
it doesn't do this if both the brake and the clutch are depressed, nor if I am not depressing either.
It is irritating and I know it is a symtom of some other thing. I want it to stop. whats wrong?

It could be a alot of different things, anything from a bad or misadjusted TPS to the clutch hanging up somewhere on the flywheel.

could also be the clutch switch (by the pedal) or neutral switch (located on top of the trans)

does it only do it when its cold?

My car does this as well, very annoying. Sometimes I can get it to stop but is hard to do. I have noticed that it does stop on it's own at times only to start again at the next stop light. It sort of jumps up about 500rpm or so and then comes back down, once back to normal idle it jumps up 500 again and comes back down. Is this the same sort of thing yours does? I am also curious on how to fix this, it is embarrasing going through the drivethrough at Mcdee's and haveing my cars idle all screwed up. :P

Any chance this is when the headlights are on? If so; it could be the BAC.

no the headlights are not on when this happens. When I get off work, I don't let it run long enough to warm up enought to stop the idle at 1800.
The cold issue. it is kind of not quite fulll operating temp.
I set it up to run cool, so in the winter, my fan never even kicks on. it hasn't been warm enough for me to test if it is the water temp sensor going bad. but i have had them go bad before and they don't ast like this at all.

My car does all sorts of disturbing **** when it's cold. I don't sweat it much because it acts fine when it kicks down to low idle. I'd set your car up to get warmed-up asap and run mostly in the normal range. Running with the engine too cool has to be effecting your MPG...

Before you start tracking down the problem, you need a complete tuneup. Plugs, wires, filters, adjust TPS, etc. If that doesn't solve it, then start looking at things like the BAC valve.

It has had a tune up just before it got cold. My BAC is disconnected. In fact it is disconnected on all three of my RX7s, this is the only one that does this. I did reset the TPS recently, and that helped. but now it idles way too high. about 1200. I can't get it to go lower. the idle adjust skrew is maxed at the lowest. Timing is dead on. i have no idea...

When did you get 2 more RX's Jason?? *do either have AL hoods?*

there's another screw on the TB you can mess w/. You might check your timing, that could let you idle it lower.
