O2 Wire into CPU?

What color is this wire on an 87 TII?

The Hayes manual says its Gy, which is green w/ yellow stripe. But I hooked up my AFG to that wire and now the gauge goes crazy when I turn on the Left Blinker! It looks cool, but doesnt help me with my AF Mixture much.

I realize that many if you arent keen on the AFG but I'd appreciate helpful replies ONLY. I already have the gauge and just want it to work properly.

Thanks

Just need the right wire

Has anyone hooked up an AFG before?

What wire does it hook up to?

Is it directly off the cpu, or is there a better place to hook the gauge to?

On mine it is a green wire. Where did you hook it up. By the CPU, or the bac valve?

By the CPU, next to the fuse box.

Is that where you hooked it up?

A green wire huh? How did you know that was the right wire? The manual said green with yellow stripe.

I will try finding 2D directly instead of a wire color. Thanks, hope you feel better!

The Turn Cancel System has a G/Y wire. Maybe you used that or something. 50-60 FSM

Well, the O2 is GY, the Turn Cancel System is G/Y. Confusing... yes. But, there's only so many colors they can use.

So what's the difference between GY and G/Y?

Does G/Y have a band around the wire rather than a stripe down it?

Don't you want the ECU in the passenger footwell and not the CPU by the fuse block?

The CPU does turn signals and the ECU does fuel control.

Have you hooked up a AFG? If so, did you use the passenger side ECU?

Maybe thats where my problem lies...

I just spliced into the wire coming off of the O2 sensor in the engine bay.

I suppose that would be the most direct route!! HA

I was already tearin into the fuse box to add a slot for the gauge lights. (I hooked up 3 new gauges.) So that's why I tried to find the wire inside the car.

Plus it keeps the engine bay a little neater. If all else fails I may go for the wire off the o2 sensor, but I'd really like to get it done inside.

Thanks

Your at the wrong side of the car there homie. You need to be over on the passenger side at the ECU. Take the door sill out and pull the carpet back. Then take the metal cover off and you will see the ECU. It should work fine after that.

The O2 wire is the a gray shielded wire. For most of it's lengh, it is covered by a shield of braided wire with a gray jacket. So if you make your connection anywhere but at the ECU or at the sensor itself, you will get irratic readings as you have connected to the shield instead of the O2 sensor wire.

I've attached an image showing the common pins on the ECU. This image is not mine, it's been posted to the forum before.

Thanks, It also seems I may be tring to connect to the CPU by the fuse box.

I've been advised to look over on the passenger side for the ECU.

Yeah, that would do it. While you are waiting, head up to the FAQ and download your copy of the Factory Service Manual.
