O2 sensor question

Well I have changed almost all the maintence items but haven't messed with the O2 sensor. What are some signs of it going bad? Bad gas mileage? Anything else? Oh and if I was going to replace it, where is it?(sorry if its a dumb question). Oh and what do you guys think of the RP Aftermarket O2 sensor? It is $40 instead of $200 for the OE Mazda one and they claim it performs as well or better than the stock one. Thanks.

As the O2 sensor ages, it's response slows down.&nbsp The obvious signs would be degrade gas mileage.&nbsp You can't see the response close down unless you have an AFR gauge.

get the RP one. I got it a year ago and my milage has been rock solid ever since. But it's not gonna give ya any power. And it is mounted on the exhaust; before your cats.

As a general maintenance schedule, replace every 50,000 - 60,000 miles.

Any input on the RP one?
An O2 sensor is an O2 sensor is an O2 sensor - there is no such thing as a better "brand".&nbsp If you're paying more than $30 for the generic O2 sensor, you're getting ripped.

Yes it is before ALL cats. It wouldn't make much sense to put it after the cat which it changing the make-up of the gases. Although if your ECU was set-up for some type of correction, I guess it could work. But on the FC it is before the cats.

I agree with Ted here, regular maintenance item every 60K and cheap aftermarket ones that work fine start around $20

The cheap ones work just as well. When I change mine I clear the ECU memory.
(battery cable disconnect, press brake pedal 5 seconds)
My gas mileage always improves.
I do it about every 50,000 miles.

Not that I know of. We have Canadian Tire which I go to for the O2 Sensor. Maybe next time I will go to the dealership b'c I get a 20 % discount. Really didn't occur to me the first time around to go to Mazda.

we are able to get the mazda sensor (ngk) for $25 round here. mazda also lists no change interval for the sensor, just to inspect it periodically. also one further thing the turbo cars only use the o2 sensor while cruising between 1500~rpm and 3200~rpm outside of that range it does nothing.

I got mine from the local autoparts shop, it was a Bosch, $30-$40 I believe. Ted, and Mark are right, an O2 sensor is an O2 sensor is an O2 sensor. Dont buy the Mazda one, and dont wait for the RP to be shipped. Im willing to bet almost anything its just a plain ol Bosch.
