O2 sensor question

I am looking to replace my o2 sensor, someone told me it wont do anything for my gas mileage like a couple miles to the gallon so i was wondering if this is true or not. I am looking to replace my o2 sensor with something that will help my 130 to the tank that i get and its getting a little expensive to put gas in. And i was wondering if any of you can point me in the direction on how to do this and will this increase my gas mileage

but mostly is there somewere i can go or one of you do a write up on how to remove it and put the new one on i know theres some crimping and cutting of the old wire but not sure thanks for the help

and i hope this will increase my gas economy

Well, "wont do anything" and "a couple miles to the gallon" are two quite different things. Most people would be pretty damn pleased with a couple of extra miles per gallon, as it'd be about a 10% reduction in petrol cost. But it's unlikely you'll get that difference from just changing an O2 sensor. I'm currently running without one, and use ~5% more gas than I did with one.

If you're using that much gas, it's not because of a faulty O2 sensor. You have a fairly major problem somewhere else.

Start with a full tuneup. Change plugs, wires, filters, all fluids, set TPS, have injectors professionally cleaned. Replace air temp and water temp (the one at the pump housing) sensors.

Also, modify your driving habits. Don't make lots of short trips. Be smooth on the throttle. You don't need to floor it between red lights. Coast to a stop instead of braking.

Try resetting your computer. If I can remember right, disconnect the battery and press on the brake pedal for 5-10 seconds. My mileage went from 18mpg to 23mpg after I changed my o2 and reset the battery.

If your 02 sensor is fubar, replacing it can greatly increase your highway mileage, but it won't do hardly anything with city driving.

My car, a 91 na that runs pig-rich, gets about 15 or 16 mpg city, jumping up to aroudn 22 mpg highway. Before I put my O2 sensor in, I was getting around 18 highway. Car is still running pig rich, but the o2 sensor helped...

Reset computer, not battery. My bad. Disconnect the black cable and press on brake 5-10 seconds. That resets the computer

Eh, resetting the computer can help. I've never heard of of your method of disconnecting the cable and hitting the brakes... I've always done it by pulling the EGI and HEAD fuses and letting it sit for a few minutes. If your ECU is doing funky things that can help. I don't really know about improving gas mileage though...

Well that obviously does exactly the same thing.
Holding the brake pedal disapates any residual voltage in the electrical system, and is the method suggested by Mazda.

Your p/d might be leaking- mine was, and when I took it into the shop, they found a pool ): of gas on the IM- I was DAMN lucky I didn't burn it down!

My very next mod was a nice little fire extinguisher

Several suggestions have been posted already. Including mine, which basically covered everything that didn't include leaks. Try searching for "mileage" as well, as there have been about 5,000 mileage topics in the last week.
