o2 sensor and egt sensor in RRheader
couple of things i need to know:
1. whats the best "thing" to use to install a o2 sensor[as well as egt] in to a roadrace header?like, just use a big grade 8 nut or something and weld it on?or is there something better to use?also, any preference which rotor to put wich sensor on?[like, better to read off the rear rotor for tunning?]
2. i dont have a egt gauge yet,and dont have the money to get 1 at the moment,so,is there a standard size that they use for the sensor?so,that i can go ahead and weld on a proper "nut"[see question 1],i'd rather not pull the header off again when i finaly get the gauge...also,i'm told 6" is the standard messurment from the mnt.face to wher you should have the egt..this sound right?i'm also told its good to have 2,one at 6",the other back at,say 12",that you can use as a reference one you get it tuned[s-afc],so u dont burn up the probes as fast.thanks very much!

For the O2 sensor bung got to summitracing.com and look up "O2 bung". Just bought a pair for $5 a piece. O2 sensors use a universal thread that is metric (not sure the size) so you could use a nut. The bungs come with a little plange that should make it a bit easier on you welder (read: better weld).
For the EGT gauge, most I've seen use a NPT thread (1/4" I think). The gauge should come with a bung. I'd find the one you want and give them a call and ask them about it. Just tell them what you're wanting to do. Summit might carry those bungs too but I'm not sure.
Placement of the probe isn't critical, it is only relative. The closer the probe is to the port the hotter it will read. If there is a tuner or someone you trust to help tune you car that says 6" then use that. They should have a reference as to what the probe should read at that position. But if someone tells you they're running 200* hotter be sure to find out where their probe is.
I just read an articel on thermocouples a while back. If I remember correctly almost all that are used are TypeK (hope that's right). Well whatever type it was it is rated to well over what a normal 1600* gauge will read. The limit is in the gauge and not the thermocouple. I wouldn't worry about burning up the probe.

I'd like to rehash this topic:
Where is the best spot to mount the EGT bung on a RB street header??
Primary exhaust tube?
Sencondary exhaust tube?
In the collector, near the O2 sensor bung?
