is the o2 sensor bad if you unplug it and nothing changes about the idle. my car is running super rich, and i was unde rthe impression that the o2 sensor controlled that aspect of air fuel mix.

The O2 sensor is not used for idle control on our cars. Idle A/F
ratio can be adjusted by turning the variable resistor located
on the passenger shock tower - its labeled R/L (rich/lean).
The O2 sensor is only used for light cruising conditions. I
would check out the resistor before screwing with it - it may
not be the reason your running rich.

How do you know your running 'super rich'?

My exhaust smells of raw gas, and i get white smoke, not oil. if i run hard (above 5k rpm) for 20 miles or so i use 1/8 tank of gas, while still making tons of power. i will look for the resistor on the shock tower tho. is that specific to the t2s or is it standard on all fcs?

HENRIK is going to write back and tell you that the variable resistor(rich/lean screw) is just for the idle. It does not affect anything but the idle. The oxygen sensor plus four or five other sensors determine the fuel mixture above idle. I beat him to it.

Sorry to say, but white smoke is coolant.. Blue is oil, and BLACK is gas. 20 miles * 8 = 160 miles, which really isn't UNHEARD of. My n/a was getting 200 tops from a tank... How hard do you drive it? You should prolly give it a full tuneup.. plugs, wires, o2 sensor, check timing.. A MSD box will help produce a fuller combustion, giving better mileage, better power, and better emmissions...

Thats not neccessarily true about the smoke colors... my friends fc had badly clogged cats, and it was running "super rich". Every time you hit the gas after it had been idling a while, white smoke would pour out the tail pipes, like an atf treatment. Bottom line, check out other things before assuming your engine is toast

DECAMCO......are you losing coolant. Is the coolant overflowing into the overflow tank? If your not losing coolant then its something else. Suggest that you fill your coolant system and bleed it and monitor the level and if your overflowing into the overflow tank. But you've figured that out already. What did you come up with?

unless i paid 3 grand for a bad engine that has a 3 year 36000 mile warranty, i dont think i am loosing coolant. it only has 1700 miles not 17000 or 170000. dont mean to sound smart ***. aside fromthat, the engine it got NEW....

street porting
carbon apex seals
highvolume oil pump
shimmed oil relief valve
grooved bearings
platinum plugs
hks intake
rb header
rb presilencer
injectors (all $800 worth)

i already use a jacobs ignition pack (less than 10 k miles on it). i know all this doesnt necissarily have to to with the smoking prob, but i took almost every precaution i could afford when i replaced my engine. the bill came up to over 6 grand, and i did it myself (no labor cost). point is, i dont think my problem is coming from any failure. just a lack of fine tuning.

btw hailers. i looked into my cas situation that you clued me into on an earlier post. to get it to make power across the entire rpm range, i had to jump it one tooth. i dont see anywhere inside the cas that i can adjust it. it did help, but it still wont idle or start when hot.

appreciate all the input guys, im definetly gettin my 50 bucks worth.

Do you still have your main cat and air pump? If not, then that's
why your exhaust stinks - either get used to it or put the
emissions stuff back on. If you're making tons of power
then your not running too rich (you'de be down on power
if you were). For 5th gear, the split air solenoid is energized
going to the main cat - don't know if this causes air to flow
or not - challenge for Hailers to answer

ahhhhhhh.....

guess i didnt realize that the cat system affected the SMELL of the exhaust gas that much. if i have no cats, it will smell like it is running rich be default?

Where in TN are you located, if you don't mind my asking. I'm having huge problems with the service tech trying to fix my car (see "flooding problems") and thought you might be able to help or tell me where to take it around the Nashville area.

Thanks.
