Numbers on keys

Hey I was just wondering if there is a way to tell exactly what a key came from by the numbers on it. My 90 FC is a 66XX and my 85 FB is 69XX. The reason i ask is because i have a key with the numbers 7259, and im curious as to what it came from. It has small teeth like the FC, and is black rubber. Anyways, im just curious, and i did search.

The numbers on the key only refer to what lock is in the car, not to what car or anything else.

ah i see. I figured they were so you could go get a copy made at the dealer without having the key in hand. I was just wondering if there was some kind of number sequence with the rx7's that would tell when it was made.

The dealer can make a key from either the 4 digit code or the VIN (as long as the locks in the car are still the original locks).

I used to repossess cars, and we'd use keys, those 4 digits are the key code to your locks. What happens is, you can take that to a locksmith, they will punch in your make, model, year, into a computer and input that 4 digit code on the key, and it will pull up a diagram showing them what depth the key needs to be cut to and where at on the key, be it a 4 depth, a 6, a 3, a 1, and a 2.

Just some info for everyone.

Any good locksmith can do the cut.
