Nub questions about FC

Hi, I was very into FDs before for a while and now I might be getting a FC turbo II. 26k mi. IMMACULATE condition in and out. what it is missing is power steering and I was wondering how it is w/o it. I ve never had a car w/o it and I have a feeling it might not be an easy task to install one myself. Also, is there RELIABILITY mods for FC like the FD? Thanks.

you barely notice a difference when you have some speed but its a pain to park or drive slowly. you could always install it.

Try it, you will probably like it. And after awhile you will won't notice it anymore with your beefy arms.

Life is miserable without power steering, especially if you've never driven a car without power steering.

Autocrossed a manual-steering Rx-7 once. Arms hurt at the end of the day. Like NCross said, it's not really noticible at speed, but anything below, say, 20 mph you'll feel some effort.

Installation isn't too tough. (At least I assume it isn't, since my ex did it himself too.) You could probably do it yourself in about a day.

on just about any car you can just unplug the power steering computer and it will turn into a manual. not sure if this is bad for the car or not so do it at your own risk. i did it on mine for a few miles just out of curiosity and it didnt damage anything.

if you have no experience installing/uninstalling major components i wouldnt mess with it but its not hard if you know what your doing.

another thing im worried about is it is gonna be my daily driver... and chicago winter is gonna be here in not too long. it would be kinda of a PITA to drive the thing in the snow. im not too worried but it would be a shame to get sucha low mileage fc in the snow/salt. and when it is nice out i ride my k4 gsx-r600. only cars i like in my price range is fc turbo and a 240sx bc im too picky...

Taking off the power steering like that doesn't give you a real feel for no power steering. And its a lot harder to use without a prober manual rack.

Its only miserable for the first couple of months, then its fine.

But if you plan on drifting you will want power steering.

My ex also said, "hey, this manual steering business isn't too bad, I'll beef up my arms and I'll get used to it soon enough!"

It wasn't too long before he went and got himself a power steering rack and reinstalled it, after he had his ORIGINAL rack shipped out to Maval to be converted into a manual rack :P

(But this was on an FD, so it doesn't really apply here anyway.)

Manual steering racks are geared better so it's easier. I don't have power steering cause it leaks like hell, drive it around still
I don't mind but I also love my car too much that I don't care how to drive it.
To the average person, there are no multiple point turns cause it's difficult...

It won't damage anything but unplugging the computer (or removing the belt) doesn't "turn it into a manual" either.
The PS rack has multiple seals and is still full of fluid, both of which make it much harder to manoeuvre than a real manual (or properly depowered) rack.

I just swapped racks in my DD and after a few days didn't notice the extra effort at all.
Parking/low speed turns are no big deal and road feel is greatly enhanced.

I don't autoX or drift, so I can't speak to those applications.
