thermostat and radiator cap, but you said not a normal overheating.

you have to have a timing gun, i guess you can call it that. put the clip over the leading 1st firing spark plug wire.

im not sure how to time a wankel. thats for a 4-8cyl.

oh also, if it is off it should not be advanced over 5 or retarded below 5. im probably wrong. someone make fun of me and correct me.

and when the light blinks the number it blinks on is where the timing is. unless you dont have numbers. then you could have a problem, cus i dont know what to do. lol.

my uncle know about rotarys but he doesn't know how to check the timing on this particular engine. the ones he had was 2 12A and 1 13B(gsl-se). so if he don't know how to put this engine on time and he knows more than me hell neither do i lol.

I know for a fact a piston engine will have over heating issues if timing doesnt advance like it should with rpm so I wouldnt doubt if the rotory would do it to, but the bottom line is that your timing should never be off make sure its correct

a rotary off time runs like ***, you would know if it was out of time...

now you just need to figure out why your car is really overheating.

low coolant level(buzzer usually lets you know of this, hard to miss as it is annoying as hell..)
faulty thermostat
plugged radiator (internally or externally, internal is rare, well both are actually)
faulty water pump
faulty fan clutch or fan blades are damaged
temp gauge innacurate(check vs another gauge)
cracked engine iron(also called a "blown coolant seal")

generally people tell you to start with the "bubble test" to check the condition of the coolant seals since this requires no replacement of suspect parts and i agree it is a good place to start when you own a rotary.

and for that matter, my car doesn't sound all that well unless the timing is advanced a bit... don't know why, though.

it most certainly wouldn't affect cooling unless something was horribly wrong, although the engine would probably blow before that (unless it was retarded, in which case it would just run cooler than normal because of the extra fuel).
