Question Not sure what this switch does?

I have searched and searched and found nothing on this one. I just bought a 1986 GXL, original owner and bone stock. It even had the owner's manual and the demo/head-cleaner cassette (still in the wrapper) in the glove box.

Here is the question. The center console that has the AAS switch and the mirror switch also has some toggle switch I can not figure out. It is in the place where most people have the security light. The other space is just the black blank plate. What in the heck does this toggle switch do? It is not in the owners manual and my Haynes manual has not shipped yet.

Any help is appreciated. And if this is a dumb question then I apologize.

i believe thats fog lights? its a NC (i think) negative relay switch.... or at least thats what i remembered it as.
I had a fuel cut switch i put there, and used the fog-light switch-switching ground as the switch led ground... heh if that wasn't interesting. I would get blinded by that led whenever i turned on the brights or turned off the headlights...

Its for the Auto Adjusting Suspension. I have a 86 GXL too, they are the only models with the suspension switch.

It sounds like something the previous owner installed.

Maybe a fuel cut switch?

So what happens when you toggle it off?

I thought you were asking what the AAS switch is for.

My previous 87 had a console switch to turn off the wipers.
The P/O had the wipers stick on, so he rigged the switch to stop them. Duh!

Nothing

Nothing happens that I know of yet. I doubt the previous owner installed anything. I have every receipt for work done on that car since '86. He just had regualr maintenance done on the car and that was it. I will go check and see if it is the fog lights. If not then I will drive her around and play with the AAS and that switch. I just did not want to put any miles on her until I do all the "new/used" car maintenance.
Thanks for quick replies.

Make an offer

Kenteth: Make me an offer and we will see.

Fuel cut switch? Why on earth would you have a fuel cut switch out in the open like that?

Fuel cut switch is an anti-flooding device, not a security device in the RX-7. Testing if it is fuel cut is easy. Start car, flip switch. If the car dies, it's a fuel cut switch.

lol... someone stealing an rx-7 should have a good idea about the car... like they probably have user-installed fuel cut switches... and that we usually put them next to the security thingie

Not fuel cutoff

Well, It is not the fuel cutoff. I am thinking it is probably something related to the lights. I will replace the bulbs and then see if it works. If not, then anyone have any good ideas as to what to use if for? I can not think of any good uses for it. It may just get taken out and I may just put in a black blank plate. We shall see. Thanks for the help.

Oh just got it

AaronCake: I just got what you meant. No, I did not think it was a security device. I meant why would someone put a fuel cut switch in a place where it can get bumped so easily. I would think it would be under the dash or somewhere only the drive would have access to it.

Ive never had a problem with my fuel cut switch being in the center console. The way mine sits, its not that easy to bump it. A fuel cut switch can theoretically be used as a security device. Whenever I go out of town or park in a high risk area, I just unplug the wires from the switch, then put in back in place.
