happened ont he freeway, resulting in a severe overheat. heard coolant alarm and watched in horror as the temp guage went from normal to pegged in about a second. tools are at work, so i haven't pull plugs yet, but not holding out hope for the motor. motor had 137,200 miles on it and 90psi compression. assuming toasted motor, what would be the most economical method of getting it roadworthy again? unfortunitly i got cali smog this month meaning it must appear to be 89 or newer and be made to meet emissions.

pulled bottom spark plugs... they were dry. no coolant in the oil. pulled the remained of the thermostate housing off, it is extremely brittle right now. the thermostat was not blown out. can;t really tell if ihad oil in the coolant, since theres not much coolant anywhere int he car now.
what do you think? replace the housing, flush the radiator, refill the coolant and pray?

yeh, if you shut it down pretty quick she still might be O.K.- I've pegged mine twice in the five years I've had it, but shut her down before any damage was done, she's still running good...keep an eye on all the fluids for a couple of days...

thats the thing due to it occuring during rush hour and me being trapped in the fast lane with a jerseywall (and a lack of shoulder) it probably ran a minute or two pegged while i was trying to get to a safe place to shut her off.
