Question Normal Idiot Light Operation?

Ok, I havn't had properly working electronics since I swaped the engine, but I'm making headway and I got my turn signals fixed and such but I have a question. When the key is in the ignition and turned past off are all the idiot lights supposed to come on? I know they will stay on when the car is running if you have a bad alt. but I have a new alt. and they turn off when I start the car. Basicly I have no idea of what the electrical system is supposed to do normaly because its been broke soo long, and really still isn't totaly fixed.

P.S I ******* hate Minnesota. Damn cold weather to hell this freaking state I can't wait to freaking leave. I can't even work on the F'in car its so damned cold!!!!

srry, just venting....

keys off - lights off
keys in acc position (1 turn) - lights off
keys in ign position (2 turns) - lights on
when the engine is started the lights should go off, if the engine stalls the lights should come on.

cold weather certainly does suck, its been around 0 *c here for about 2 weeks now.

I havent had mine running as of yet, hehe, but none of them are supposed to be on when the car is running. When you turn the key, I remember some of mine came one like chk engine and brake, then they went off.
PS: I hate working in the cold too, cant get anythign done... I need a big **** heater!

Wow, Im glad I live in Texas. My car hates anything below about 50, so I'd hate to think of what you have to deal with.
I think that the idiot lights are supposed to go off when you start the car. But mine are totally screwed up, and only work about half the time, but I do remember a friends fc working like that.

Mine light up whenever I turn the key on like you said. I'm pretty sure it's normal. Kinda like in any other car, all the lights on the guage faces light up to show that they're in working order.

mine never used to light up properly, they deffinatley worked because the coolant light used to go off all the time and the handbrake, door open lights worked o.k. turned out the alt was broke, changed alt and they've been fine since.
