Noob here. Is it worth buying an FC w/o an engine?
Hi folks,
Sorry if this may be a dumb post but i've been wanting to get an FC and I just have a curious question whether it would be worth buying the car w/o an engine?
There's a convertible one for sale on ebay and i'm wondering how much would it cost me to drop a new engine.
Here's the link:

would this be worth making a project?
thx
Derrick

It's difficult to tell if anything else is wrong with the car if it doesn't run, or if it is only running on one rotor. There could be problems with the transmission, clutch, differential, driveshaft, shocks, springs, etc., that you may not notice. Also, with any car this old, parts are going to fail on you, even if they seem good right now. If you are willing to accept these risks, then this would be a good project car if you can get it at a good price. The S5 tail lights and OEM convertible wheels alone are highly sought after, and are worth about $1,000 just by themselves if in good shape.
An engine rebuild costs about $2,000, possibly a little more if the broken seals ruined the rotor or housings.
Some things I noticed about the car:
The antenna is a common problem but is usually an easy fix. The wiper problem may be expensive or difficult to fix, depending on what is wrong. The body work is an easy fix. You would probably want to get some type of cover for the battery. It looks like it has a cheap aftermarket exhaust system installed, but it's hard to tell from these pictures. See the FAQ in this 2Gen forum for buying tips.
