crap my friend raced a rx7 today and beat it at first the 7 of course took off on it but we caught up quick and killed it so im pissed. I got a NA to but i dont wanna race him im building up my car some more so far i just got my custom intake but i wanna build from intake to exhaust is there any intake manifolds i should buy or should i just go for nitrous?

Race him, unless he's got some serious money into the N/A Eclipse. If he does, I/H/E + the free mods and race him.

Why not just port your intake manifiold?? Check the archives Dre2000 has a nice write-up on how to do it.

Did the rx-7 know you were racing?? I find it hard to believe that an rx-7 can get "killed" by a n/a eclipse.

i eat eclipses for breakfast lunch and **** them before dinner. i even raced a v6 eclipse new one i will give them some credit they are pretty fast ...... but not fast enough up top.

The third gen v6 eclipse in a 2nd gen body would be in the low 15s to possibly high 14s the best car and driver ran was a 15.6 stock but the body is close to 3200 pounds the lightest 2nd gen was near 2800 pounds so that motor has so move in it its just the weight that is killing the car

 

I belive that a 2nd gen GSX eclipse weighs around 3200lbs..... They're pretty heavy.

 

my girlfriend has a 98 eclipse i got one word slooooww very slow not to mention how it sounds when you really get on it it sounds like its gonna blow at 80 P.O.S. i hate that car done had the motor rebuilt at 34,000 miles (damn Dodge) just figured id share my shitclipse experience.

 

Its the 95 and 96 cars that weight 2800 pounds 97 and 98 are the 3000 pound club cars

 

1st gen eclipse, talon 89-94 are pretty fast cars, With $1000 of BPU you can easly reach the 13 sec time slips.

In my opinion the 4G63 is one of the most boost friendly motors ever built, behind the supra TT bottom end.

 

Base model Eclipse = Dodge Neon engine

I've taken 1G GST's before with my `86 N/A. The guy was running 15psi of boost and I spanked him. The kid still doesn't admit to it, but every time he shifted he lost ground and every time I shifted I pulled farther away from him. Stupid boingers....

Then again, Brent Rau is a friend of mine and his 7.9 second eclipse will spank me in reverse. Unless we ran for a mile or so and then he'd smoke his engine. 42psi of boost'll do that to ya.

 

dude, you should be hammering NA eclipses. you should even be almost keeping up with GST's(around stock booost)
get a turboII, we dominate alot of stuff.

maybe your friend just had a bad race.. hell, i lost to an NA mk4 supra one time due to my bad launch and missing 3rd gear, so alot of reaces can go either way depending on how bad you **** up.

 

i lost to a friends 5spd 97 eclipse...then i got my 5th and 6th ports working again and i totally domintated her eclipse from then on, so make sure your intake ports are working right. also full exhaust, intake, etc do that and laugh at the competition
