NonTurbo to Turbo Swap

I just recently bought a 1986 rx7 13B with 175,000 miles, well the seals inside the engine are screwed and I am blowing grey smoke at 4000rpm. It will last longer and cost less to drop in a 13B turbo, I need to know what parts are different and where I can buy the midsection pipe that fits between the front and main cat converters for the turbo exhaust or if you could suggest a better exhaust alternative that will pass virginia emissions. I also need to know anything that’s different like hoses, brackets, ect.

Much appreciated,
Sean

You are going to need to change a lot more than just that. You basically need to repalce your whole drivetrain.

Do some searches for turbo swaps and take a look around the archives. Everything regarding that has been discussed more than once .

drivetrain is actually not necessary. I recently did this swap in an 88 se retaining my stock transmission back (did upgrade to an xtd stage3 shitclutch though for the na trans). I actually mean not necessary for me. I dont plan on any 10,000 rpm launches and such, but have driven quite aggressivly for the past week and a half or so with no issues (now i am gonna brake an axle today after posting this though). My next upgrade will probably be a t2 trans, driveshaft, rear and axles, brake booster starter etc.. i just didnt want to get too much invested in this if my jspec corksport t2 needed a rebuild. The car actually surprised me a little at only 5 psi, a completely different beast than my greddyd miata at 7 pounds.

i just did a swap on my 86 and just to give you some advice it will be easier to get a s4 t2 engine and please get the t2 tranny to go with it because the stock na tranny wont last long its not built for turbo app unless you upgrade so get a s4 t2 engine and tranny, ecu and t2 wire harness it will make the swap much easier also you dont have to change your rear end mazdatrix sales a custom drive shaft with na u joints on it so the swap is not bad at all just dont use a s5 engine its much complicated if i would have known i would have gone with a s4 but the s5 engines have more horse power than the s4
