Is A Non Turbo Rx7 Still Fast?

i WAS LOOKING INTO BUYING A SECOND GEN. FOR MY

FIRST CAR, I WOULD REALY LOVE A TURBO

BUT MY FATHER SAYS THEY ARE TOO FAST

AND ARE PROBLY LESS DEPENDIBLE.

ARE THE NON TURBO'S STILL QUITE FAST/FUN?

I'll build you a powerhouse motor for your N/A. Or you can just buy my car for 3500.

Throw a nice interior in it, and hit it up with some paint and you'd be big pimpin.

i never drove N/As
my first car is a TII

but N/As still have the great handling and its pretty quick and unless you have proir driving experince a N/A is a good idea with my TII my first few drivieng experices were kinda scary.

I started on a FB /w a street port/header's and it was a quick little car, it had a 12A in it, so if you get a na FC I am sure you will have fun in it, and it will help you learn more about the car, and get used to them.

Also, NA's are more reliable then turbo's.

It all depends on what you consider fast. My N/A FC is fairly quick, I have beaten many other low-end imports (civics, integras, Probe GTs), and can hang with nearly stock 5.0 Mustangs. The car is a blast to drive around on twisty back roads, and can out-handle 95% of most cars out there. My N/A has never really given me any reliablity problems that I havent caused myself. As far as the speed factor though, you will want more. Even modifying the N/A to its limits, its still will not be *that* fast. It all depends on how fast you want to go.

keep the revs up in the NA and you wont feel like its too slow...that and kick out any passengers

HOW MUCH WOULD YOU THINK SAY..... AN 87 BASIC COUPE MODEL WITH 100,000 MI. IN FAIR CONDITION WITHOUT A SPOT OF RUST WOULD COST ME?

You could pick up a 87 Turbo II for that price, an n/a should only run you 1500-2k max... Especially if it's a base...

TIS IS A CAR I LOOKED AT THE PAINT IS FADED AND THERE IS BRAKE PROBLEM. THERE IS ALSO SOME STRESS CRACKS, BUT COULD THIS BE THE PAINT?. ALSO SOME OF THE PANELS ON THE RIGHT SIDE ARE A SLIGHT SHADE DIFFERENT THEN THE REST OF THE CAR. COULD THIS MEAN IT HAS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE GUY SAID IT HAS A CLEAR HISTORY. it is a basic coupe model, nothin is power but it does have a cd player he put in it. it has never seen winter (i live is maine) everything works that i can tell. it also has a bran new, may be a 3" exauast, i did not measure it.

2. GET HKS TRUE DUALS 35HP AT THE WHEELS ( KICK THE LIVING HELL OF STOCK TURBOS)
3. You will have good fuel economy and you can impress the hotties with 4 feet long flames and a great sound .... Is also a good mod to scare even the fearest SS camaro.

dude i have the GXL model and i paid 1400 from someone i knew!! it was always stored in the winter time and is spotless, i have many mods as u can tell!! but it still needs some TLC!! i love mine and it is fast especially at high RPMs!! HAVE FUN and PLAY HARD!! PEACE!! got mine to 135 mph before i let off!! scary at that speed in alittle car!!

I don't think many lt1/ls1's will be scared of n/a 2nd gens

too answer the question: speed is all relative.

If you're just starting out in the world of cars I think a n/a FC is a great car to start out with. They aren't too complicated, and they are rather cheap. It's easy to work on, and you can build up some mechanical skills and confidence in yourself. You won't be running 12's anytime soon, but it's easy enough to break 14's on stock ports if you can drive. Maybe you'll get involved in scca and solo II competitions

I love how you can tell how old a person is, just by the fact that they type in all capitals. NA's are great cars. Speed never makes a car, the driver does. The FC Rx-7 is a great handeling car whether it is NA or turbo.---- You sound like your 4 years old with the "I WANT TO GO AS FAST AS I CAN." What you dont seem to realize is that haveing this car (as well as other sports cars) is a HUGE responsability. I reccomend you take a quick think and decide if a sports car is a good idea for someone like you. I dont want to spoil your fun, but if you dont understand the fact that you have a tremendous amount of power in your hands, you will die. No teenager is a good driver. If you do get the car. Hey! Awsome. Welcome to the club. Just please, be a responsibul driver, and keep the speed on the track.

something else you may want to consider--I am from New England, so I remember what the winters can be like. Simply put--you are likely to be immobile when the snow starts coming down with a RX7. With the amount of snow you can get up there, and the fact that a 7 is rear wheel drive, with not much weight above the rear axle, you will find yourself driving VERY carefully, if you can even get out of your driveway. Rex's are low to the ground, and you would be driving a rotary-powered snowplow.....as long as this isn't a problem, or if you have access to something else to drive when the bad weather comes, then I say go for it, but before you do ANYTHING about buying a 7, you should get a compression test done. If the seller isn't willing to let this happen, beware.

Oh--and before anyone tries to flame me cuz they can drive in the snow just fine, I am talking about how some parts of New England get snow storms that can completely bury a 7 as it sits in your driveway......so don't anyone go blowing a head gasket on me.....

To answer your question, yes N/A FCs are still fast. They don't have turbo speed (obviously), although they can be made to match one. It will take more tuning to get the same speed as a turbo, but it'll be much more rewarding. Also they have better handling than a turbo (well, let me explain that to you...they are much more fluid than a turbo which usually translates to better handling...I'm sure others will disagree, but it's true). Overall it's a much more invigorating driving experience...and observing the way that you speak (no offense) it's the best route to go anyway. They have MORE than enough speed than you could handle right now (once again no offense). Even seasoned drivers can have loads of fun with an N/A (I stand by them...I've driven various turbos besides just FCs, and nothing beats an N/A rotary engine to me). Good luck to whatever you do though. I say go for the N/A...you'll love it.
