Question non-turbo mods

i want to make my non turbo faster without converting to turbo and i want to do this as cheap as possible. are there any tweaks or cheap mods someone could recommend? this is prolly a long shot but id like to be able to get in the 5 to 6 second 0 - 60mph range.

You're going to have to port to get those numbers, no ifs, ands or buts about it. And it won't be cheap.

defenitely. these are my plans as well, being that I just lost my rear rotor. Will a good street port (plan on having pinapple do it) along with header, exhaust, intake, ported intake manifold give me decent hp numbers?

Lighten it up. And then Go ask every 7 shop if they have a cheap header or other parts laying around. You can get cool stuff for cheap or free if you ask enough poeple.

I am the king of cheap.

if your lookin' to spend as little money as possible....gut cats....find a cheap header like mattrx7 said, ditch accesories, if you have a s4 air pump removal, buy a cheap cone filter, and even port your intake manifold (free!). All those mods are of little cost and will give a good performance jump.

i have an 86 gxl that i have just put a new street port motor in and has a pacesetter header followed by duel straight pipe all the my back to my borla exhaust. My intake is slightly modded. took off the air bok in favor of a cone filter with heat shield, which by the way is on a bracket so the air flow is better. 10mm spark plug wires and a lightwait flywheel. It goes pretty good now and those are some of my recommendations for you to do to your car. Rotary rocket

Gutting catilytic converter will allow exhaust to flow much better, there is honeycomb filter in there, and by gutting it or hollowing it your just knocking out the internals of the cat. The purpose of the air pump is to feed fresh air to the cat, to allow it to breathe. If you wanted to port your intake manifold, removal of the upper and lower intake manifold's is required, then taking a grinding tool of your choice and gasket porting the manifold ends, which is just porting the manifold out to the gasket line, and yes this can be done by yourself for the price of new gaskets and whatever tool you decide to use. It does require alot of work though, the porting takes a LONG time and removal of several vaccuum lines is required as well as fuel rails and injectors.

depending on what kind of cat or cats you have. Stock from mazda theres a pre-cat then another following it. You can gut both my just ramming a pipe in there and knocking all the contents out. As for the air pump, you dont need a block off plate, but you will need to plug the hose going to the back of it with a cork or whatever you can plug it with, im assuming you have a s4 (86-88) so you will need to find another way to activate your 6 ports b/c you probably wont have enough exhaust pressure for them to open.

When gutting your cats.. make sure not to breath the dust in.. that **** isn't good for you.

Also.. do a search.

There is already tons of info on here. I swear nearly every question you could have has already been answered or brought up at least.

Check the archive.. you will find tons of excellent information there.

Instead of gutting the cat why not a test pipe?
