Non Turbo ECU Upgrade
I have a non-turbo '86 GXL. Would an ECU upgrade improve performance? I did a forum search and all ECU upgrades talk about turbo boost pressures. Also, if I do the upgrade, should I accompany it with exhaust/ignition upgrade?
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking replacement chip or a stand alone controller? I would guess there is power to be had with either one. How much? Depends on your mods and tuning ability.
I want to see a stock port N/A engine with a header and a Haltech controlling it. Just basic mods and a dyno sheet to show the results. Anyone??????

I believe the chip takes into account the average mods the average enthusiast(sp?) will do and programs(timing advance, fuel map, red line limits) the chip like that. Your car may or maynot react as good as others with different mods but it should be an improvement. The differences may not be noticable but they are there none the less.

Alright, well there is no real point in getting a chip without having intake/exhaust already. Do that before you go out and have your chip reprogramed. There is a JET chip at nopionline.

knowledge junkie
Just make sure the chip you get is made for the NA rx-7 and make sure it's for the Series IV NA engine (ie 86-88 years).
Make sure the chip is designed with the mods you have on your car (exhaust & intake upgrades most likely). Otherwise you'll see your fuel economy drop and gain no power.
