noise when i hit dips/speedbumps

sorry i know this is really broad but if i knew any more id tell you. well, when i hit a dip or a speedbump (even at low speeds, angled or not) about 75% of the time ill hear a popping/snapping sound from my front left tire area. all i know is that it doesnt sound good. i was wondering if anyone knows what this might be, or at least some possibilities i can narrow it down to. i was thinking maybe tension/tie rod or control arm...i dunno -.- thanks for any help.

jack the front up and do a visual inspection then have someone shake the wheel side to side then up and down and feel for anything loose
