Angry Noise in rear after installing shocks??

I just got done installing my kyb agx shocks and eibach springs a few days ago... and now when i drive the car over any bumps i get a klunk sound... almost like a dull ringing.

I did not have a impact wrench when in tightened top bolt for the shock... so i used a vice grip on the top of the shaft and a wrench, and just basicaly tighted it as much as i could... with the length of tools i was using its prolly around 50 - 60 pounds of torque on there... but i cant really say for sure.

would this cause the problem... or is there something else that might be causing the klunking/ringing sound from the back

now that the shock is in there, and the car is settled, try to tighten the top bolt further.

I've seen this happen in other cars many times.

I've got nothin... That's all I know that would cause that.

Do you, perhaps, have solid endlinks for the rear swaybar? Sometimes the bushings in there can make clanging noises if they're not greased up.

nah, still have the stock links.... (new links and swaybars are next on my suspention list )

my only thought could be that its the old mounts just not liking the new springs and shocks.... does anyone know where i can get new rear strut tops? (mazdatrix looks like they only have the front ones)

just got the car back.... shop didnt find any problems with my install, everything was tight enough and put together right...

so any other ideas about what might cause a squeaking/ringing/clunking sound from the back after installing new shocks?

REAL common problem. At the top of the rear shock assembly is a metal plate that has the two studs that actually hold the top of the assembly to the car.

Stock, this has a foam kind of gasket between the metal and the body. After removing/reinstalling, it's not there, and you get some metal-metal contact and noise.

Remove the shock assembly (you don't have to decompress the spring or anything) and put some RTV on that metal plate where it meets the body. I like the grey RTV - it has a good tensile strength. That should do the trick.

If that isnt the problem, did you cut the bumpstops when you changed out the suspension? You'll need to vut the bumpstops about in 1/2 so that it will not bottom out over bumps, since the car now sits lower.
