Noise driving me crazy
My car has been making a strange noise and I was wandering if any of you have experienced the same problem. The only way I can explain the noise is it sounds like lifters are chattering on a V-8 under acceleration. This noise don’t happen all the time it just does it sometimes but when it does it hesitates a little bit. Has anybody experienced this and if so what’s the remedy
Thanks,
Warren

its hard to explain it seems to do it most in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear. Its not like a clutch chatter. it kind of sounds like a bad rod bearing or something (if it was a V-8).
it wouldnt have anything to do with the end play?
I had to remove the front cover (about 2 months ago) to replace the gasket (it was leaking oil badly where the cover meets the block) and someone (not on this club) told me if i wasnt careful i could screw up the end play. Is that so?
Thanks,
Warren

car, year, model mods? turbo nonturbo?
sounds like maybe pinging/detonation a little form your description. Be careful, *if* this is the cause, it can kill your rotary in a matter of a few runs.
Culprits could be bad gas, high intake temps, dirty plugs, too much boost, too little fuel, etc.

Hi Pal,
I experience this before, and make like a idiot asking around. The solution for the illness;
1. Change both U-joint that is located on the tip of the propeller shaft "Long shaft" that link from the tranny to the rear diff.
2. After this is done, make sure the propeller shaft is well balanced.
3. Change away the gear lever bushing "the 1 sitting at the tip of the gear lever stick" which is white if it worn out.
Tips for temporary remedy;
Open up your gear lever stick, stuff some heat resistant filter, like those filter use for fish tank "Black" in colour into the square box, dun stuff too much! remenber to add in lithium grease. this will help to take away the sound, but it will be abit stiff to engage your gear...

, I think it just may be the tranny, I put a new shift boot on and it got more quiet.
