Unhappy upper IM off.. coolant leak in lower IM? Help!

after diddl'n around on my car I removed the Upper Intake Manifold as of advice of other members that the rear rotor to TB coolant line was leaking. After removing the IM i'm thinking it's not the issues at all but instead a bolt on the Lower manifold.. is this possible?

back ground info and more pics
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...t=coolant+leak

some new pics of the situation since pictures tell a 1,000 words.

See the plug in the lower manifold. I felt around it and it was damp which I'm guessing was coolant but couldn't tell since their was no green ooze just blow between the egg & lower manifold. If the plugs leaking can i simple remove it teflon tape it and put it back in?

the work bench is starting to fill up soon i'll have the DP/Cat off so I can replace that too woo

Thanks again for your help. I think that's where it's at but I was hoping to get advice since i'm starting to work my way up on the wankle tree of knowledge

btw it's a 90 TII

yes i'm cleaning as I go.. new silicon hoses are on order and i'm trying to clean all the grease and buildup off the motor as to find out if I have an oil leak so I can remedy that issues also damn i love this car

There is a coolant hole in the rear rotor with a O ring that allows coolant to run through the lower intake. That could be the the culprit. But I don't think you would get coolant on the top of the motor if it was leaking past that Oring. I would pull that plug and check it out for sure... clean it up at least and seal it up.

That's what I was thinking too.. I know it has 2 of those coolant o ring type passages from looking at mazdatrix for what I needed to order. I'm hoping that's all it is.. Just kinda weird as of out of no where not even hard driving just idling basically caused that to start leaking..

Thanks for the help I appreciate it all!

You didn't have the coolant line going to the throttle body unplugged did you?

Nope that coolant was all there the moment i pulled the IM. I plugged the TB to rear rotor coolant line the moment I got it unplugged (which happened to be the last thing I got unplugged) the Coolant line that runs from the TB by the BAC I just unplugged at the BAC so most of that was left together. the only part that was damp was from that plug down to between the lower IM and egg. I'm guessing it's not the two 'o' rings in the lower manifold since it has coolant on top.

well after enjoying more time in the garage last night. I'm 100% stumped. I'm to the point of pulling the lower manifold and replacing the 'o' rings just because If I don't do it that'll end up being the problem. The TB - rear rotor line seems fine with no coolant around it. It's dry all the way around. It doesn't look like the coolant line that goes from the TB to it's mount on the BAC or from there to the thermastat. I thought that one was the reason but the tube looks good. It could almost be the thermastat is leaking out of the lower corner of it. I just think if the water 'o' rings went out I would have seen white smoke in my exhaust since it'ld most likely be leaking coolant into the combustion chamber.

The only good news is I got the air pump & ACV out along with the fan & fan shroud so I'll be doing the "YooHoo" belt and blocking that off before I put the car back together. I'm just really stumped on this coolant leak.
