No turbo convertables?

I've been planning on selling my rx7 to buy another one cuz mines an 86 n/a and it's an automatic... So, heres what I'm looking for: I want one thats a convertable, I want it to be turbo, manual transmission, and to be in better shape than mine with less miles etc. I've been looking on ebay but every convertable I see is n/a, do they not make convertables with turbo?

No they didn't, but people do convertible-turbo conversions. Wait for one of those to come up for sale, and spend 12 grand on it.

Remmember though, for a full Turbo swap you need the whole turbo drive train not just the engine.

Leviathan, check the 2nd gen for sale section periodically. They tend to pop up there every once in a while.

Buy that one and finish the conversion. They guy is practically giving it away, and no, I don't even known him. It's just a good deal.

I just got rid of my turbovert for $3500 (coulda got more but ohwell). The swap is extremely easy if you know what you are doing. It's as simple as taking your old one out, and putting the new one in. I feel that installing the turbo rear end was harder than all the engine work that was involved. Stay within your engine/car series though (s4/s4, s5/s5) don't cross between because you will run into some problems. But this topic has been covered probably 560times realisticly. Do a search like "turbo swap" and you will get ALL the answers you could possibly need.

Not just Japan

Edit the above.

Just about EVERY country EXCEPT the US got TurboVerts including for sure Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. I know for a fact Europe got both left hand and right hand drive TurboVerts.

+1 for staying within your series, it makes life a whole lot easier, especially if you follow this guys post from teamfc3s.

I've been looking for a nice vert with a blown engine for a while now, so if you see one, it's mine.

EDIT: for bad spelling

^ The guy in that thread does a half-assed turbo swap keeping the NA rear end by using a mazdatrix driveshaft. Some people do it this way and it works ok until they start modding the engine and producing more power. If you ever want to put some real power to the ground you gotta get rid of that NA rear end, it will break. I imagine the NA rear end would break faster in a turbo vert than a turbo coupe since the vert also has the extra weight it has to lug around.

More Info on the swap.

I understand that that swap is only adequate if you are keeping basically stock equipment with only about 180-200hp, and it's a way to do the conversion in small increments because some of us can't afford to buy all the parts at one time. I was mainly posting it because he makes a very good point about using the N/A wiring harness with the TII computer with minimal effort. In the long run if your hp goals are 250+ and gobs of torque then you will eventually need to update the rear end.

Only Europe and Japan got Turbo 'verts. Australia got the same chassis/drivetrain combos as the US (Turbo coupe, NA coupe and NA 'vert) and NZ only got NA coupes for one year (86). We have lots of Japanese imports though.

Im gonna be doing this in about a month (as soon as i dont absolutely NEED my 'vert as a dd), in an 88 vert, but with the rear end and all.

I was under the impression that you needed the airbox/air flow meter from the turbo II. In the link above to teamfc3s.org, he uses the NA afm. What are the differences, and is there a way to adapt the NA afm to work at turbo specs?

Also, its been recommended to me to use the turbo II fuel pump instead of the NA one. I had read that the pumps flowed the same, but talking to some people, they said that there were differences and the TII pump was nesc to keep the engine well-fueled

You probably can. You can get Jspec auto trans(turbo trans). But you probably need some of the jspec electronics to get it to work.
