No Thermostat? Wtf!!! Help Quick Plz!

Hey guys,

so as you know from my previous thread, i broke the t-stat bolt. Well, i just opened the other bolt off and opened the piping up. I looked on both ends, but there is no t-stat in there....is it possible?

Doesn't that mean my car has always ran too cold causing it to run really rich?

Am i looking in the right place for the t-stat? I opened the pipe where it turns into a buble shape, held by 2 bolts, right where the alternator is and where the water temperature sensor goes (NOT the sending unit)??

Please let me know asap!

is there any reason someone would not use a t-stat?

Most of the time, on any car I've owned, you can just squeeze the upper rad hose when its cold and it SHOULDNT be soft, when its warmed up it should be.

Another way is to squeeze it and listen to see if you can hear the t-stat opening and closing, thats my personal way I just found out the other day anyways.

by the sounds of your description you have taken off the right piece....but a picture would tell us for sure.

some people take out the thermostat to attempt to make the car run cooler.....otherwise reffered to as a redneck radiator......since a full aluminum Koyo or otherwise would do the job more effectively - all while keeping the car at proper operating temp, just never allowing it to go over that because of its added cooling CAPACITY......instead of just running the car at a lower temp

i'm pretty sure its the right place. Unfortunately, i dont have my digital camera on me, I'll get it back tomorrow, all i have is my camera phone. (i can text you pics?)

So now, how do i know which way to put the t-stat in? I'm scared to screw it up cuz my water temp. gauge does not work, and if i put the t-stat in the wrong way, it will overheat, and i wouldn't know......

so what to do? just leave it redneck like that?

do you have a haynes?????

if not...I would suggest looking for posts by SureShot....
He has a link to online FSM's in his signature - it will be a lot easier then me trying to describe which side of the t-stat goes down

Just go buy a new one from Mazda and put it in. Don't leave it like that.

i'm not leaving it like that, i was going to change my t-stat while i was there putting my water temp. sensor in, and i opened it up and there was no t-stat in there.

I already have another t-stat waiting, but i have problems with the broken bolt right now....
