NO sooner did my mom break in her new engine, than....

Someone pulled an SUV out in her path (the driver was a teenage girl on the phone...) and WHAM!

The new engine I built and installed 1100 miles ago came to a sudden STOP.

The rest of the car suffered from deceleration trauma.

I will measure it tomorrow (or really soon) to determine its future.

Looks fixable. Good thing verts have such high resale. Hopefully the airbag isn't an arm and 5 legs (it probably is). I'd hate for that nice car to be totaled.

I swear that people who are stupid enough to drive like that should be shot. Yeah, yeah, I have no morals, whatever, but it could be my life taken one day because of an SUV driver drinking thier Starbucks while on the phone.

Sorry to hear about it man, I'm hoping your mom is alright.

God damn that sucks. I hate SUV drivers because it seems like they think they own the road. I almost drove under one from the side cas she pulled out infront of me. I had to slam on the brakes and swerve off the road to keep from hitting her, ive never been so scared in my life!

PS- i wish my mom drove an RX-7 vert.

Sniper, my friend...

Your Mom and that Vert just don't seem to mix well.

Good to hear your Mom is ok. Sounds like 90-91 Verts having Airbags is a good thing.

Good luck putting her (the Vert) back together.

PS Nice center wheel cap on her wheels.

Definatly looks fixable to me, I wrecked an 86 and judging from your pics (i had a similar front-end accident) I'd say it'd be not to hard to fix, a little bending here and there and it should look ok again

I totally got that beat =O 3 days after I bought my FC, a woman blew a stop sign in her SUV, I went under her and threw her car up in the air. Well long story short it was her fault, but she is to poor to pay me any money back, so I paid $4000 for my car and then 3 days later another $3500 to fixx all the body damage =(

SUVs suck

Gotta love Gov't safety standards. If car is equipped with one airbag(verts), then neither seatbelt needs to be active/motorized. It doesn't do the passenger any good.

Sniper, the shifter boot looks ripped

Looks totalled($$ wise). Around here insurance will quickly(if fault isn't disputed) issue a check and send notice to the motor vehicle department for a salvage title. Most companies will not bother fixing a 11+ year old car. The estimate for repair is more than what the car is worth. Some will reimburse you for all the recent repairs+book value. Thats your best bet. Not that I am hinting that you should milk the insurance company for every cent possible, but why not!

Edit: time for CS front bumper, Mariah fenders, CF hood.....where's Banzai, I thought that he posted a junkyard Vert with a good nose??

Glad your mom is ok. I think the car looks fixable, hope the insurance company doesn't try and total it. I fear the SUV drivers out here in San Diego, I don't think they pay half as much attention to the road as they do to the person they're talking to on the phone.

stupid ******* teenage girl drivers! I am 18, and all the girls I know are crappy drivers, so I now ask - "Why is my insurance twice that of the girls in my class?"

sorry to hear about your mum's car - I know if some dumbass girl pulled out in front of me in my vert, I would beat the living crap out of her.

Yeah, stupid girl drivers.

They pay SOO much less insurance too. The reason is this, girls are 3x as likely to get into an accident. BUT, guys are 3x as likely to get into a FATAL accident. My friend who is 18, has NEVER gotten into an accident, has been driving for over 2 years, and passed the driving test first try pays $400 more/year than his 16 y/o sister who failed the drivers' test THRICE.

Glad to hear your mom is OK. Sad to see another "perfect" RX bit the dust...

The car LOOKS salvagable, but the insurance company thinks otherwise. MY dad just got rear-ended (he's fine) from a Ford F-150 the other day in his '88 Toyota Cressida (with Supra engine). ALL that happened was the trunk was crunched, and it needed a new tailight. But labor + $300 trunk + $100 taillight = TOTALLED . OH! and the F-150's high, shiny, steel bumper didnt have a scratch

Insurance is a bitch, you put so much in and when the time comes, you get less than 1/100th of it back.

I always get mad when females complain about equal salary in the workplace, maybe if we paid the same ****** insurance, i'd understand

Well, not sure how much a new hood costs.. but i'd say around $400?

+ paint, another 400
+ labor, another 400
+bumper, maybe $250?
+fender+paint+labor... $1,000

That's over 2k right there... and I know there will be more. Sad to say, but insurance will be a bitch and probably total it. ( I know, i'm bieng pessamistic)

Hell if I ever got rear-ended, i'd prlly be totalled too. New rear bumper, RARE S5 tails, "trunk," hatch.... that's major $$$ for a 12 year old car...

Yeah but have you ever seen the retail on a S5 vert? Its higher than a Turbo II. It'd take about 4 grand to total one.

I know that Sam has a whole front end for it.

I will aquire it ASAP.

The car fram is bent, but it doesnt appear bad from my measurements.

I will strip the engine bay from the shock towers forward and then tow it to a body shop for frame machine work.

I too think it is salvageable, but not for a decent amount of money.

I have the desire to fix it, and my mother wants the engine in whatever car she buys with the money she got. (7,000 - not counting the medical settlement)

I hope that after the medical settlement, she will get a Honda S2000.

Eventually i might get that one to fix and then drive it! ROFL.

Seriously, this car is looking like a TurboII conversion more and more.
