Found to have a bad control unit to which caused an annoying constant beep. I have since found a replacement control unit at a salvage yard. Once plugged in there was no beep noise, although I do not have power assist steering anymore.
Is this because the control unit I used to replace was out of a car without the power steering option.

I own an '87 GS or GXL, not quite sure exactly.

Please advise.

 

Let me get this straight. You got a power steering unit from a car that didn't have the power steering option.... So how did it have a power steering unit?
