no power

Just purchased an 87. Considerable amount of work done to the engine. New intake gasket, tune-up, cleaned exhaust, new fuel pump, along w/ other adjustments, parts etc. Car has 70K miles & is in excellent shape. It w/ idle but no power to drive it. The problem @ this point has been reduced to a sensor or something internal. Never having owned a Rotory powered car, this is totally new to me. Before I start searching for a qualified repair person, or randomly removing parts myself, I'd like to know if this is more serious than I'm currently able to resolve, I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced this & what the sollution was/is.

So it idles just fine. What exactly happens when you depress the throttle? Just keep on idling? At the same rate? My first response is to have you disconnect the tps, or throttle position sensor. Its at the front of the throttle body. Has a plunger on one end and has a three wire harness coming out of it . Disconnect the harness plug. Get in and drive off. Cost to do this in zip and your not going to hurt a thing. If it works, fine. If not we'll try another thing. This is quick and cheap at the end of our day.

Thanks for the response. I've been feverishly going thru many of the similar topics & responses in the forum & some scare me about the amount of effort it's going to require to keep this car streetable. Selling my 83 280ZX turbo for this car. Anyway, I can rev the engine & move the car around, but driving it is impossible
due to lack of power. Comparable situation was the turbo sensor on my Z corroded & wouldn't kick in. Cleaned the sensor & back to full power. Please bear w/ me on the 7 because this is a whole new set of equipment & terminology. Glad to read the 1st response was from you. I've started a list of people that have responded to other problems & am entering the people that I feel have a genuine knowledge of the car from the ones that w/just write to get their name or personal opinion on the board. I w/ become more educated about this car soon. I have a tendency to get attached to cars & really enjoy the trip(rush) when they're running well. Thanks again
