Car wouldn't idle. Problem solved!

I know there are many problems, and many solutions. I just thought I'd report on mine so everyone has one MORE thing to check. BTW, I have an '87 TII.

Just dropped $1500 into my $2000 car (new clutch, front suspension. TPS, and last, but not least, an air funnel. I've been fighting idle problems and hesitation problems for ages, and I was hoping the TPS would take care of the hesitation. I'm not sure that it has, because the weather is coolernow and it alays happened in hotter weather. Anyway, I took my car to the best damned 7 mechanic in San Antonio (and cheapest too!). He discovered that my air funnel (the ribbed hose going from the air flow meter to the turbo) probably had a leak. I bought the replacement, and sure enough, when I pulled the old one out, it was split ip the hose at the turbo end. My mechanic says he has replaced a number of these! Apparently they get pretty hot on that end, and fail. Anyway, I replaced it with the new one, and Voila! The car now idles properly! Of course I had to readjust everthing else that I screwed up in order to compensate. Oh, my problem had been first an irregular idle, then it wouldn't idle at all, even after it was warmed up. Kept wanting to die. I hope this helps at least one other Rotorite out there. Man, with the new clutch and suspension, I am sooo happy I might even go out and find me a new door handle!

Kevin

P.S. - Many thanks to all of you who provided advice and encouraged me to keep the 7. I'll let you know if the hesitation problem was cured by the TPS. I suspect not, because I got a couple hiccups on a spirited drive today.
