no oil pressure reading
I just put on a new clutch; when i put the new one in, i noticed that my oil pressure gauge wasn't reading any pressure at all. Is the ground connector part of the wiring harness that goes on the transmission?
The other very strange thing is that i opened up the oil cap to add some, and there was a strong smell of gasoline and smoke (ehaust?) in it. What does that mean? My car also backfires quite a bit and won't idle until it's warm. True, i don't have a knock control unit, but that shouldn't be that bad. I just timed it too; the thing is perfect.
Are these two related? I just got the engine, so i'm hoping that the seals aren't bad.
Please, any info would be overly-appriciated.

This is probably just a gauge problem. If you really had zero oil pressure the engine would be dead by now. You need to check what the real oil pressure is.
If you had planned to buy an aftermarket oil pressure gauge now would be a good time. It you don't want to spend much money and just want to see if it's just the gauge/sender that's faulty (very likely) then by a cheap oil pressure gauge from an autoparts store and hook it up.

is the oil pressure sending unit the canister on the engine? I also was looking around, and found a wire that wasn't connected to anything. It had a single clip on the end of it, and a black covering. I removed the covering and found that this wire had the same colors as the on that attaches to the sending unit. It is on the same wiring harness (left side), near the transmission. Could this be the culprit?

Yes. It is brass colored and directly below the oil filter pedistal.

Could be. Sounds reasonable but are you sure that you're followed the sending units wire all the way to the harness to verify its not broken?

yeah, i checked it, the wire is not broken, but i still don't know where that other wire is supposed to go. Someone posted that it could be "stuck"...how do i unstick it?
