No heat/warm air and blower only on igniton

Hey there,

my car is a 86 n/a with no AC.

It's a project car and since it began running this year I've never had warm air inside the car (maybe the core is clogged?). Thermostat is new, no air in the cooling system.
The other problem is: the blower motor only running for a short time (1-2 seconds) when I turn on the ignition, I leave the ignition on and it just stops blowing. Can't make it work again other than turning off/on the ignitionbut will do the same and blow for 2 seconds and then shut off.
When I start the car, the blower stays off. It won't react to the slider on the Logicon.

My conclusion: blower motor is fine because its blowing for this short time (even softer and harder, depening on the slider position at the time it is working)

The Logicon leaves me with questions: it can press the buttons to switch the air vents, everything is working, i can hear the motor switching through.
Blower slider: no function as soon as the blower shuts off during ignition on.
Cold/Warm slider: I don't know... either it is not working and that's the reason why I never had warm air or something else....

Anyone can relate to these problems?

Thank you

solder joints are know to be suspect on the logicon units, and is likely the issue, or at least contributing to it; but I always suggest checking the easy things like fuses first. If all the fuses are good, this is a good write up on reflowing the solder joints and is easily done yourself if you have a soldering iron.

The heater valve is can be observed while you operate the heat/cool slider. the valve is under the dash on the driver's side and is under a plastic cover held on by 2 screws that are fairly easy to get to. Once you can see the valve you should be able to see the linkages moving the plunger in and out as you slide the control. If it's not moving there's an issue with the motor, logicon, or wiring.

past that the FSM has a good step by step diagnostic for trouble shooting the heater and AC unit (section 15). FSM can be downloaded here:

There is a resistor on the blower, it might be bad. Something you can also try is jiggle your key to see if it comes back on. The ignition switch is known to effect the blower and the wipers... do your wipers work when the blower doesn't?

Good morning,

the wipers work all the time. With ignition on and also when the car ia running.
Blower is only working the first 2 seconds when the ignition is turned on, then never again until i shut it down completely.

We need to know a couple of things. Here is what your next step should be.

Get to the blower connector. Disconnect it.

Confirm that you are getting these readings:

1. Blue wire to Ground(body) = ~12V
2. Black/Yellow wire to Ground = ~12V
3. Black/Yellow wire to Black wire = ~12V
4. Black/Yellow to Green/Red wire = ~12V

Do these four tests. Record and post your results and we will be closer to finding the culprit!

Hey there,
should I find these readings while ignition is on or off? I guess it should be on right?
