Last night was pulling back into my driveway and my gauges went haywire and car started to run weird, ended up dying. Wouldn’t restart. Felt like loose battery terminals so assumed such and retightened them. No luck. After fiddling with them a bit more, I got it to start again and idle for about 15 mins but then when I put my battery box cover back on to close the hold it started running weird again. Now I’m stuck with it still not starting no matter what I try, and I’m pretty stumped. Whenever I apply any electrical load things go haywire. For example, pressing the brakes or moving the sunroof makes my speakers static-y and makes my tach move.
things I’ve tried:
charging the battery
cleaning chassis ground, main ground, and starter ground
tightening terminals
ensuring motor turns easily by hand

any help would be appreciated.

 

Sounds like a short. Did the battery cables get swapped? Did the battery ground out on the hood or something similar?

 

not to my knowledge, no. But also definitely sounds like a short to me. Just not sure where to look
