No compession, Carbon Lock?
Ok guys Im looking for some advice here, I am prepared to pull out my engine and start tearing her down. However before I do, I wanted to ask if anyone has had any success, in freeing up an apex seal that could be possibly experiencing carbon lock, its the rear rotor on my 90 13b that has no compession, but the car still turns over and runs like a bag of sh*t, is there any spay that wont harm my engine to bad that i could try and free up a possibly carbon locked apex seal. Any help/advice would be greatly appriciated ,thanks Jay

hey there is only like a 2 -5 % chance its carbon locked. you have probaly lost a apex seal, rotor, houseing and prob rear stationary gear. just get ready to spend some cash. i only know this cause i thought my motor was carbonlock untill i pulled it apart. all the things i listed above plus the irons are all fucked up up on mine. hope the same didnt happen to you

I guess its worth at least a try before I pull out the engine and tear it down! I was talking to a Mechanic at work and i think tomorrow after work im going to spray a 1/4 of a bottle of "Release All" then turn over the egine w/o starting it then spay in another 1/4 of the bottle, let it sit over night then fire her up Sat morning, and see how well/if she runs? What do you guys think?

Yeah I know, I'm just trying to cover all my bases before I opt for the rebuild, the difference other then the $$$ involved is driving this weekend verses next summer, and we all know we love driving our rotaries as much as they love being driven!

take off the exhaust manifold... then you can check for a blown seal with your finger (don't rotate with finger in the port) and if it's locked you can work it loose. you probably need a rebuild though.
fc3s nataku... why would a blown apex seal mean he blew a stationary gear?

True carbon lock is very rare, and will prevent the engine from turing.
If the engine already is likely blown, then go ahead and ATF it. It's not like you're going to break it more. Apex seals generally just don't suddenly stick. They only stick if the engine has been sitting.
