I've got a box sitting here of about 150 or so used plugs. 80% of them 9s, some platinums, some 7s, some 10s.

About half are silver, and half are gold. Although, I can't find a gold colored 10.

Edit: Just went and looked at some new plugs: B10EGVs are silver, B10EVs are gold, (says Gold Palladium on the box), and the super-duper R6725-105s are silver.

The "gold" looks like a gold cadmium plating.
If it is, it's just for corrosion resistance.
It doesn't really affect the performance of the spark plug.
