newer water temp sensor on older gauge. will it work?

hey so this may be a stupid question. so i have the opportunity to purchase an older style hks electrical water temp gauge, however it does not come with a water temp sensor, just the power harness and the harness for the sensor. im assuming that the water temp sensors are calibrated to each style gauge, however would a newer style sensor from hks give me the correct reading on this older style gauge? thanks.

You'll have to find out (probably from HKS) what ohm range the gauge is expecting to see and what sending unit falls in that range.
