Newbieee Question need help!

Sorry for such a "dumb" question but im 16, have had no experience with cars and what not, but i have to redo the sloppy shifter bushings and i dont even know how to take off the shifter ****?? any other help on this replacment would be greatly appreciated, i want to do this in the next couple of hours so hopefully someone can give me advice? Thanks

keep your right hand on under the shift **** and grip it tight. use your left hand to twist the shift **** off counter clock wise and thats it

You should have a ring under the shift **** (it may be covered by the boot) that is actually a jamb nut to hold the **** on tightly. I forget what size wrench you need, but you can use an adjustable wrench to turn the ring clockwise. Doing so will allow the **** to easily turn off without damaging it.

Ya i just went outside and fiddled around a bit thanks to both jim and footworks, now im off to go get the bushing kit!

i did a short throw swap in ten min. its easy just watch where the bushings go!

Are you saying you don't have to drop the trany when you are adjusting the shiffter? My shiffter has more play than a 2 dollor *****! it has since i bought the damn thing.

So ARE you saying it can be adjusted from inside the car?!

You can put the bushings in from inside the car. No need to drop the transmission.

lol. nah, inside the cab!!! remove shift ***, pop off plastic cover, 3 bolts, pull, replace bushings, and reverse the steps!
