newbie smoke question
I have a 90 Fc Na,
had it for almost a year!
and i never red lined my car before,
maybe 5k max.
for it is my DD and i babie the crap out of it.
however, last weekend, I went to LA to a "do over" afternoon clubbin haha
and got pissed drunk and didnt give a **** and red lined my car for the first time.
i was scared and though if i redlined it my car would break or something haha
tried red lining it in neutral couple times and did a red line on 2nd and 3rd once i think.
and the car was smoking so much,
at one point at a stop sign, the car was smoking from the exhaust so much i thought i did a burn out.
thought i fucked up something but it runs fine and dosent smoke anymore.
what was that?
and is it really important to red line once in a while to keep the carbs away?

uh... Don't drive while you're drunk... Bad idea...
Anyway... You were probably just burning out some of the build up. If you can rev it up under load now without smoke, I wouldn't worry about it.
Yes it is important to redline the car - if everything's in good or even decent condition it will only help your engine to keep clean, keep the secondary injectors working, and keep the 5th/6th/VDI actuators working. ^_^
Really do NOT worry about redlining it.. When I wind my S4 up [7K redline] I usually shift at 7500, back when I had a 90' vert [8K redline] I'd wind that car up to 8500 - Never had a single problem with it. B)

Its a rotory. if you dont beat the **** out of it you get carbon build up and have engine problems. Its not a normal engine, its designed to be redlined.
you where most likely burning up old carbon deposets.

2. refer to #1, stupid ****.
3. yes, you should redline it regularly. The smoke is from a combination of never being revved high, and probably a tired motor. When I had the vert(23 yr old original motor w/ 150k) that thing would smoke pretty good over 7000, smoke goes away after a minute. I found it smoked more if it had been a week or so since I drove it hard.
You will find that this forum is full of Rx7 fanatics. The fact you're driving drunk in an rx7 brings out two things-
1. You could kill someone, could be one of us or one of our family members.
2. You could kill another Rx7
One is worse then the other, either-
A. Stop being a douche and find a DD
or
B. Sell your 7, buy a civic and wreck that... seems civic occupants die more often then the people they hit.

Ok, let me spell out something for you-
1980/1990 cars weren't the safest... We drive and race cars that are 20+ years old. You're driving around in a car that the bushings are probably rotted out. The shocks and springs probably need replaced... badly. So, with those two aspects combined with your inability to rationalize and think about what you are doing, you put ALOT of people's lives at risk. You turned your fun little daily driver into a weapon. Speeding down the freeway redlining it 'not giving a ****' changes when you stomp on your brakes and this car you 'baby' slams into another vehicle, killing you and the occupant.
