Yes, probably. WHY in the world would you want them reconnected?

It's right under the tach. It's a yellow up arrow. It only has to do with gas mileage, not when you're supposed to shift for best performance.

If you have any sense in driving you really don't need it.

Why would an automatic... that shifts for you... have a light telling you when to shift?

AKA, it's not an automatic thing. My S4 has it. I think they all should (5 speed). Go look again, it might just not be working.

Automatics have the hold button that allows you to shift it semi-manually... A shift-up light seems mandatory for r-tards.

Must be an S4 thing. There's no such light on my guage cluster - nor has there ever been on any of my S5's.... Can't remember on my S4's though.. been a long time since I've owned an S4.

The shift up light is run by the stock ECU, so it won't work unless you connect it to the Haltech. Even then it wouldn't be able to perform it's original function, as a Haltech can't tell you the most economical time to change gear. You could configure it as a redline warning light, but I think you'd need to replace the bulb with a high-intensity LED for it to be useful.

i personally think the shift up light is one of the coolest features on our cars. how many people have a shift up light stock???/ its badass. and for an 80's car to have it.

i made a thread about it a while ago i loved it so much.

Somehow I'm missing the "cool" factor in a light that tells you how to save gas in a sports car...

My Saturn sedan, for starters.

I could care less about it other than the fact mine doesn't seem to be working, and it's likely the causes behind it not working are what's keeping the cruise control from working as well...

if you dont know when to shift go buy an automatic transmission.

On the S4 there is a small plastic tab on the top of the clutch pedal. This tab engages and disengages a plunger switch at the top of the pedal movement or rather when the pedal is at its upper most point. If the plastic tab is missing or broken, the shift light won't work and the cruise control won't work.

Yeah, having posted that, I went out and checked out my old guage cluster from my auto 91 coupe. No shift up light. So..

Must be an S4 thing!

Agreed that shift up lights are annoying. My Jeep Wrangler had one... came on at 2500rpms. ANNOYING. I was a rebel and shifted at 3500.

What if the shift up light works, but not the cruise control? It lights up and everything when I press the button, it just won't hold the speed. Know why?
