Question New turbo, but car STILL wont purr....

I was having what i thought to be turbo problems, but seems to be something different. The car is very hard to start after sitting for a few hours.
When i can finally get the car to start after a good minute of cranking and pumping the gas pedal, a ****-load a smoke comes out from the mufflers and the turbo. (like its burning off of it from somewhere... odd because it happens when the turbo is cold.)

So today i removed the turbo shroud, started the car and turned it off. I found gasoline slowwwwwly DRIPPING from the hot side of the turbo where it meets the downpipe.. with no signs of where the gas came from???? Just replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets and installed a new s5 turbo, so i dont think exhaust gasses are leaking out of the turbo and causing drips....

Im stumped, ideas?

Is there a way i can check without taking off the throttle body? I peeked around where i could with a flashlight and everything looked dry.

theres no reason that the gas should be coming from the turbo. it has to be leaking from one of your fuel lines......just double check all your connections, lines, fuel rails, basicall evey tube that contains gas.....this could be a very serious problem if you dont find the leak.......

Usually the main culprits of this problem are the Pulsation dampers....use the Haynes maunal found in the FAQs to see how to test to make sure that it is operating properly. If there is too much preesure in your lines this could also cause this slow leak you are speaking of. If you dont get it fixed soon, chances are you will literally burn up your engine.

you could have a stuck open injector. IF you think about it it is flooding. holding the pedal down helps to unflood a car. THat is my guess..the injector is staying open and as you are cranking there is to much fuel and its pushing it out the exhaust housing...Good luck

Im borrowing a friends car for a while. My biggest question is: when cranking to start, what could be smoking from around the turbo while the car is cold? Nothing is even HOT to burn the gasoline off???

Is it easier to diagnose these problems if i take off the TB? If so do i need to buy a new UIM gasket to put it back on?

yeah, sounds like a leaking injector to me. too much fuel into engine engine and the only place to go is out the exhaust. if you got a fuel pressure tester you can hook up a gauge and check static fuel pressure. thats with the KOEO.. if its all ok, then check pressure when started.. the pressure should drop a little cause of the assisted vacuum on the regulator.. if it doesnt, and it goes higher than possibly the regulator is bad or a kinked return line..if you remove the vacuum line on the regulator when running the pressure should rise. also you can check the pressure after shutting down car and check pressure drop. it should maintain pressure.

KOEO is key on engine off...so you get power to fuel pump and can see pressure..

Good. Now jumper the fuel pump check connector in the engine bay and turn the key to ON only. The fuel pump will now run constantly. Let it run for about fifteen minutes OR until you can spy what is leaking on top of the engine.

The fuel pump will NOT run with the key just to ON. You need to jumper the fuel pump check conector in the engine bay. It's on the right side of the engine bay. It has two sockets and is YELLOW in color. It might have a piece of black shrink tubing around it. Put a jumper b/t the two sockets and turn the key ON. You'll hear fuel passing thru the fuel rails.

Already pulled off the injectors and fuel rail. The big rail is called the primary, right? Well, one of the injectors was cracked near the tip. Dunno if it would be leaking from there cause it was below the o-ring seal...

The FPR located on the primary rail, and it has a vacuum nipple coming off of it right? And the PD is on the secondary (smaller) rail and has a little screw coming out of the tip?

Im going to get some longer fuel line today (cause im removing the rats nest) so i can try the idea that HAILERS suggested.

Are there some mods i should do while i have all of this stuff apart?

Yes. I did not notice the leaking fuel until yesterday, so i thought the fuel smell and smoke was coming from a bad turbo gasket. So while replacing the gasket i replaced my s4 turbo with an s5 turbo, and the leak was still present. After removing heat sheilds and stuff i realised there was lots of gasoline present on the hot side of the turbo, thus making this the now fuel problem
