new TII: no boost: where to start?
I just picked up a 10th anniversary 88 TII. Very excited. However, there's no boost. The car is slow. I've got a lot of tuning stuff to do but I'm wondering where to start looking for 0 boost problems.
I also have an n/a so I'm not totally new to the rx.
Any suggestions or pointers?
Thanks,
-Mark

Look for BIG intake vacuum leaks...
I'd blame that 5/8" ID hose running under the BAC valve - the factory doesn't clamp it so if yours doesn't have clamps, CLAMP IT NOW!
Also check all the intercooler hoses - both the inlet and outlet.  Make sure the hose clamps are secure and tight!

What's a BAC valve?
Doesn't the intercooler outlet directly into the intake?

Does it idle? If so, that'll probably rule out a major vacuum leak.
How far does the factory boost gauge move? Does it come off the -20 at all? Do you hear the turbo spooling at all? It could possibly be seized. That will make the car terribly slow.

The underneath BAC hose and the intercooler hoses seal properly when it's relatively cool, like when you first start your car.  As the engine heats up, it softens the rubber.  Under boost, it'll leak, but easily seals back up when you lift off.

The guage will move a TINY amount when I floor it above 3k rpm.
I don't know what the turbo spooling should sound like.
How do you unseize a turbo?
And I still have no clue as to what a BAC valve is. What is it?

You should hear a high pitched wooshing sound if the turbo is spooling.
Take the airbox and turbo inlet duct off and try to spin the compressor wheel.
The BAC valve is on the side of the upper intake, next to the intercooler. Its got a green end where the electircal connector is, with coolant hoses running in and out of it.

check the TID pipe that goes from the intake to the compressor. the heat from the turbo will make the plastic hard and eventually crack it.
I had mine crack and then fall off. I couldn't figure out what was wrong and had to tow it to a rotary shop 30 mintues away to figure out what was wrong.
It's mostly like that it's hard and cracking or cracked already if your car has more than 100k on it. Check that too.

1.If the TID is old and cracked you will have a poor idle.If it has fallen off you will have no idle.
2.If you have a major leak in the ducting on the discharge side of the turbo compressor you will hear it woosh as the compressor spools up.
3.If the twin scroll actuator is stuck you will still see some boost,ie more than 0.
I would follow Felix's advice because it sounds like your turbo is seized. You will need a rebuild or replacement if itis seized.
