New to these cars
I haven't picked up my RX7 yet it's (Iam told) a 1987. It is a SCCA race car and I will be getting in late August because thats the soonest I can get down to southern Ca to get it. It is a non-turbo but the car is completed and I am getting the 24ft enclosed trailer and two spair engines (may or may not need to be rebuilt) spair wheels , tires body parts and more. What can you guys tell and old (63) piston engine racer thats been out of the sport for 22 years about these cars. Thanks.
It's hard to say anything pertinent when you're talking about a race car...who knows what's been done or how well it was executed.
I don't imagine anything about a stock RX would apply.

I'd imagine it's going to be heavily modified, with most stock components replaced. That's not to say you won't get any help here, it just depends on what your intentions are going to be with the car.
If you don't already know how they work, you should probably get a basic understanding of what's going on and how everything is actually happening. If you plan to build N/A you will find it harder to make power than an N/A reciprocating engine
When the car was last raced two years ago it was still competitive. The suspenion is modified the engine I don't know what was done or what can be done to these engines to hop them up. I know how they work but have never worked on one. When I pick it up I will go over it and see what all that I can tell has been worked on. I know that it has adjustable struts bigger brakes and Konis. I don't know what is used for anti-sway bars stock size or after market. But by this spring I should have this figured out and ready to race. This should be a lot of fun and this time I get to be the driver.

- Be sure to register at Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development so you can get a good deal on parts. You can drive your car in a local autocross twice to meet the requirements if you think it will take a while to finish your driving schools. Do not register for any other online "sponsorships" without checking them out, as most of them are marketing scams.

- Read the FAQ sticky if you want more information about these cars, but just keep in mind that most of the info is for unmodified cars or for street modifications. The links to the online service manuals are especially handy, but in your case you will probably want to fork out $100 for the loose-leaf hard copy manual.

- These books are a bit dated, but they will give you a good overview until you can talk with the other racers about current modifications.
