If you did that then your timing is most likely way off. It's tough to stab it in perfect. Open the blind cap and do what I said earlier in this thread.

Do yall replace the blind cap? Does it provide any function besides hiding the nut?

When I say blind cap I mean the top of the CAS. Line up the yellow mark on the engine wiht the stud on the front cover, then pop the top off of the CAS. loosen the nut and move the CAS so the tip of the spinner thing is at the side of the back brush. The side it's lined up at shopuld face the passenger side of the car.
Heres the picture and how AaronCake says to do it.

Rotate the engine until the first timing mark lines up.

Pull the cover from the CAS.

Remove the CAS.

Turn it so the notch on the bottom of the CAS shaft lines up with the dimple in the gear.

Hold the trigger wheel with your thumb so it doesn't skip around.

Install CAS. You may have to turn the body slightly to get it in place.

The end result should show the trigger wheels in the above position.

Oh, I thought the blind cap was the plastic cover that was pressed down on the CAS locking nut.

I'll do the search. Thanks for the lead.

It probably is the cap on the nut, but whatever.
You don't have to search either. I searched and just edited my post above.

I did the search but the search function on the forum drives me nuts. Fortunately, Google handled the search "RX7 hitman timing CAS" quite well and delivered Hitman's site.

The "FSM way" picture is exactly like Aaron's and matches what I stumbled on when stabbing the CAS. But I'll hit it with the timing light again.

Question, if the timing marks show up, it is right with no possibility of being 180 degrees off, correct?

I just want to be sure I've eliminated timing as a possibility.

We got around to ReTED's suggestion to check the fuel pressure. So I'm ending this rambling exploration and starting a new focused thread.
